Paranormal activity takes on many forms, Those who study such events have
grouped them into several defined categories. While there are cases where more
then one type of activity will occur these have been found to apply in most cases.
Poltergeist activity
Poltergeist activity is perhaps the best known of paranormal activities due to its
exposure in many TV shows and movies. This is the most common type of haunting.
A poltergeist is usually invisible but its effects can be seen ,heard, felt and
sometimes even smelled. poltergeist activity usually starts with a minor demonstration.
A cold draft, knocking, scratching or rapping noise. The activity will usually increase to
include the whole range of activity, crashing sounds, flying dishes, furniture
moving and occasionally spontaneous fires or floods. in some cases human like
sounds, moaning, laughing, sobs, screams or footsteps will accompany poltergeist
activity. it is rare for an apparition or ghostly figure to appear in a poltergeist haunting.
Poltergeist activity most normally will be attached to or directed at a person or
persons as opposed to a house or location. In many poltergeist cases there will
be present in the household a teen age child.
Apparition haunting
This type of haunting involves all of the activities of a poltergeist occurrence however
there is more often a materialization of an apparition. also this type usually seems to
be connected to a house or location as opposed to a person. normally this type of haunting
is considered to be less destructive then a poltergeist. This type of haunting can also
be broken down into two general sub categories,
1. A haunting where the apparition seems aware of the person involved
this may involve attempts to communicate or simply eye contact.
2. A recording where the apparition seems to be re-enacting some activity from
a past time and appears totally unaware of the presents of the observers.
Many reported viewings of battle scenes or military spirits seem to be of this kind.
as are the reports of anniversary ghosts that reputedly appear at the same
time each year, possibly on the anniversary of their demise.
Theories are many and varied as to the cause of hauntings, ranging from
the belief that they are departed spirits who are for some reason still bound
to an earthly existence. To theories that the emotion involved in a battle
or violent death in some way imprints itself something like a movie trapped in
rocks or stonework containing quantities of quarts and in someway unknown
utilizing the earths own magnetic field. These recordings are then stored until
such time as atmosphericconditions are correct and someone with
the proper sensitivity to perceive them are
present and at this time they are replayed for the viewer.
These are also sometimes called time slips.
